A social worker’s introduction to human resources and business practices.

<p>Join Adam Power, RSW, for a lunch hour overview of approaches to leadership and management, and ways to collaborate with human resource departments for crucial conversations. These skills will be helpful for many social workers in leadership roles, whether they are managing a team at a nonprofit or starting their own private practice.</p><ul><li><em><em>What are some common pitfalls and things that social workers need to know, but may not have learned in school?</em></em></li><li><em><em>How can we maximize our effectiveness and support those in our team?</em></em></li><li><em><em>When is it time to reach out to a human resource professional for help?</em></em></li></ul><p><br></p><h3>Speaker</h3><p><strong><strong>Adam Power, RSW</strong></strong>, is an academic chair in the School of Health and Human Services at NSCC, a sessional instructor at Cape Breton University in the Shannon School of Business (organizational management) and a practicing clinical therapist. He has over two decades of occupational experience in health and human services, with a particular focus on  disability supports and services. Adam has extensive formal education in social work (MSW, BSW) from the University of Victoria, an MBA from Cape Breton University, and a B.Sc. (Psychology) from Mount Allison University.</p><p><br></p><h3>Eligibility</h3><p>There are no prerequisites for this session. You'll need a device that can use <a href="https://zoom.us/test" title="https://zoom.us/test" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom</a>, and a reasonably reliable internet connection.
