As an English-language cultural centre located in the historical quarter of Quebec City, the Morrin Centre strives to be a leading cultural institution of national standing, providing the Francophone and Anglophone public with rich, engaging programming in the areas of heritage interpretation, education, and the arts.  Building upon our building’s history and key institutions, our programming aims to provide historical perspective on Quebec City’s unique French-English heritage, develop enhanced educational opportunities for youth,  and act as a springboard for artistic creativity.--Le Morrin Centre est un centre culturel de langue anglaise qui fait la promotion du patrimoine de la communauté anglophone à Québec, encourage les échanges culturels et offre une grande variété d’activités, telles que des services de bibliothèque, des visites guidées, des rencontres avec des auteurs, des ateliers d’écriture et un festival d’écrivains. Son édifice de 200 ans, situé au coeur du Vieux-Québec, est géré par la Literary and Historical Society of Quebec et fait partie des lieux historiques nationaux du Canada.

A talk and performance offering a curated chronological tour through some of the major movements in Western popular music

Join us for our series of talks in honour of the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec’s 200th anniversary.Recounting some fascinating stories behind well-known songs from the past, award-winning singer-songwriter Rob Lutes will lead a curated chronological tour through some of the major movements in Western popular music, from its earliest iterations in America in the 18th and 19th centuries, through the arrival of new genres like ragtime and blues, the flowering of Tin Pan Alley and the birth of Rock and Roll. To mark the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec’s 200th anniversary, Rob will also play and talk about some of the music in Quebec over this period. About Rob LutesSince the release of his first album, Gravity, Rob Lutes has steadily built a collection of exquisite songs that inhabit the intersection of blues, folk, Americana, and the contemporary singer-songwriter genre. Lutes released his 8th album, Come Around, in April 2021. It was nominated for four Canadian Folk Music Awards, and won Lutes his second CFMA for Contemporary Singer of the Year. He has had his songs recorded by many other artists. This event is made possible thanks to support from the Government of Canada. /// Rejoignez-nous pour notre série de conférences en l’honneur du 200e anniversaire de la Literary and Historical Society of Quebec (LHSQ).En faisant ressortir les histoires fascinantes qui se cachent derrière les chansons célèbres du passé, l’auteur-compositeur-interprète primé Rob Lutes propose une visite guidée chronologique à travers quelques-uns de grands mouvements de la musique populaire, de ses premiers balbutiements en Amérique au XVIIIe et XIVe siècles jusqu'à la floraison de nouveaux genres tels que le ragtime, le blues, la floraison du Tin Pan Alley et la naissance du Rock and Roll. Pour souligner le 200e anniversaire de la LHSQ, Rob présentera et interprétera également quelques musiques jouées au Québec à cette époque. À propos de Rob LutesDepuis la sortie de son premier album, Gravity, Rob Lutes a graduellement élargi sa collection d’exquises chansons qui se trouvent au carrefour entre le blues, le folk, l’Americana et le genre contemporain des auteurs-compositeurs-interprètes. Le 8e album de Lutes, Come Around, est sorti en Avril 2021. Cet enregistrement a été nominé pour quatre prix de folk canadien et a reçu le CFMA for Contemporary Singer of the Year, un prix que Lutes recevait ainsi pour la deuxième fois. Les chansons de Lutes ont été enregistrées par de nombreux autres artistes.Cette activité est offerte uniquement en anglais.
