BC Regional Gathering: Kootenays

The BC Climate Agri-Solutions Fund (CAF) provides funding to help farmers tackle climate change by adopting beneficial managing practices (BMPs) in three specific areas: Nitrogen Management, Cover Cropping and Rotational Grazing. CAF is funded by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the On-Farm Climate Action Fund and delivered by the Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC.

On October 18, join local producers and industry experts in Creston for a hands-on exploration of the benefits of cover cropping and rotational grazing! Brought to you in collaboration with Organic BC, the Small Scale Meat Producers Association, and Kootenay &amp; Boundary Farm Advisors.During this event:<ul><li>Molly Thurston and Greg Evans of Kokanee Fruit Company will guide you through their mixed orchard and grazing operation, highlighting their cover cropping and grazing techniques used to prepare new orchard plantings. And, they will demo their no-till seeder!</li><li>Jeff Nimmo, regional agrologist from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, will join Molly, also an agrologist, to analyze the soil profiles to assess the impact of these practices.</li><li>Julia Smith from the Small Scale Meat Producers Association will give a practical fencing demo for rotational grazing and a tour of their mobile slaughter trailer.</li></ul>Lunch will be provided, and the day will wrap up with an optional social gathering at Wild North Brewing (at your cost). <ul><li>9:30am-10am: Welcome and Coffee/Snacks</li><li>10am-11am: Tour of operation and cover cropped and grazed areas -Molly Thurston</li><li>11am-noon: Soils discussion with Molly Thurston &amp; Jeff Nimmo</li><li>Noon- 1pm: Lunch -sandwiches and fruit provided</li><li>1pm -3pm: Fencing demo/slaughter trailer tour -Julia Smith, SSMPA</li><li>3pm: Social at Wild North Brewery </li></ul>This event is supported by the <a href="https://www.bccaf.ca./" title="https://www.bccaf.ca./" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">BC Climate Agri-Solutions Fund (BCCAF)</a>.
