Introduction + Land Acknowledgement

This presentation will review the unique Family and Baby clinic at Oak Valley Health. This clinic is midwife led and supports both birth parents and infants who do not have access to a family doctor. Midwives in FAB provide well infant weight exams and monitor jaundice from early discharge to four weeks of age. We also collaborate with labour and delivery by facilitating early discharge for well dyads.

More people with disabilities are choosing pregnancy, however face a number of barriers to care. This presentation will outline an interdisciplinary approach to antenatal, birth and postpartum care for people with disabilities.

Racially Concordant Midwifery Care: The Transformative Role Ancestral Hands Midwives in Black maternal Health                                     This presentation will explore the transformative potential of racially concordant midwifery care in addressing Black perinatal health disparities. Focusing on the innovative work of Ancestral Hands Midwives, we will delve into the community-driven approach to improving Black maternal health, including the impacts of racially concordant care on client experiences and outcomes.

This innovative regional program provides essential care and support tor expectant parents from early in pregnancy until 6 months postpartum. From Petawawa in the west, the Quebec border in the east and the St Lawrence to the south are welcome to join and receive support through five pillars: Prenatal education, Parent Support, Breastfeeding Support, Mental Health support and One on one support.

The East York Region North Durham Ontario Health Team recently funded a needs assessment of the perinatal mental health needs of the community. In collaboration with the OHT and McMaster, Oak Valley Health's Midwifery Program conducted focus groups, in person interviews and online surveys to understand the unmet needs of perinatal people experiencing mental health concerns.

Guidance on available resources and support for victims and their advocates will also be provided.
