“Mechanical Marvels” will explore how railway technology was developed and how trains in Toronto changed the physical landscape of the city. Mechanical Marvels will transport visitors to the largest ever passenger car yard in Canada, and paint a picture of Toronto’s industrial boom.Mechanical Marvels is an approximately 30-minute, outdoor guided walking tour that takes visitors around Roundhouse Park and into our historical buildings, locomotives, and passenger cars. Please Note - Our tours are time-sensitive due to the volume of interest, so attendees MUST be on time. A 5 minute grace period for latecomers will be given prior to the departure of the tour.TOUR HIGHLIGHTS<ul><li>Stand on the site of Canada’s largest passenger car yard</li><li>Learn how steam, diesel, and compressed air locomotives worked up close</li><li>Experience the daily tasks of a railway switch operator inside Cabin D, an original switching tower used in Toronto</li></ul>Please Note: The recommended age for this tour is 8 and up. For more groups with younger children, please consider joining us for our Tales of the Rails tour.VISITOR SAFETYThe safety and well-being of our visitors, volunteers, and museum staff are our highest priority. While we are looking forward to welcoming you back, additional health and safety precautions are in place. We ask that visitors stay home if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 or are considered to be in a high risk category. Before visiting, please use Ontario Health’s self-assessment tool available here. All staff are required to wear a mask. We strongly encourage visitors to wear a non-medical mask or face covering if they are able, frequently wash or sanitize hands, and maintain physical distancing inside and outside of the museum and on tours. We thank our visitors in advance for complying with these new modifications.We will limit the number of visitors in the museum and on guided tours. All visits to the museum must be pre-booked through Eventbrite.
