Global Goals Jam Canada  Winter 2025 (March 7-9th Weekend)

TheSDG Innovation Labis annual experiential programming to equip individuals with knowledge, skills,  motivation and action plans to contribute toward the achievement of SDG solutions through social entrepreneurship.This is an initiative to engage the youth, young professionals, and the community as an agent of change to bring about socio-economic and environmental impact through SDG-driven solutions with the use of an entrepreneurial mindset, new business models, and disruptive technologies. This provides participants with lifelong learning & opportunities to implement their own social entrepreneurship initiatives addressing most pressing challenges of humanity.By engaging students in the highly agile experiential, entrepreneurial process and cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset in students, we can empower and engage them to remain adaptable when facing obstacles, persist through failure, communicate better, become problem-solvers, opportunity finders and next generation innovators.  This lifelong learning enables them to achieve their personal and career goals.The SDG Innovation Lab consists of five experiential modules providing comprehensive experiential programming:Module 1: SDG Training BootcampPresentations on SDGs and their implementation by experts followed by introduction to the design thinking process.Module 2:  Global Goals (SDG) ChallengeAn intense, hands-on, team-oriented and thoughtfully mentored program to design, build and pitch strategies for an originally- or collaboratively-hatched idea focusing on Global Goals/SDGs..Module 3: Tech for SDG Bootcamp/HackathonAn intense, hands-on, team-oriented and thoughtfully mentored program to design, build and pitch strategies for an originally- or collaboratively-hatched technology idea focusing on Global Goals/SDGs.Module 4: Build Your Venture (Incubation Experience)A 10- to 12-week intense, team-oriented and thoughtfully mentored program to build solutions to pressing social or business challenges using Lean LaunchPad methodology developed by Steve Blank in 2011 and introduced at Stanford University, Columbia Business School and UC Berkeley, a method for teaching entrepreneurship that combines experiential learning with the three building blocks of a successful lean startup: Alexander Osterwalder's Business Model Canvas, Blank's customer development model and agile engineering.Module 5: Make Your Venture Investment-readyA mentoring, advisory, and lending program for underserved social enterprises with growth potential. Support and partnerships are planned to operationalize it.

Do you want to be part of a select group of committed people who will spend a weekend designing and hacking innovative solutions to challenges that can help Canada contribute to achieving the Global Goals?Join us on the occasion of the 2025 SDG Week Canada (March 3-7) and to celebrate International Women's Day (March 8) for the #GlobalGoalsJamCanada Winter 2025 on March 7th-9th — let’s jam for equitable community and better world and win awards worth $4500*!**NOTE: Registrations will close on Sunday, March 2nd 12 PM EST, or once our intake seating is reached.The Global Goals Jam Canada Winter 2025 program is organized by the SDG Innovation Lab*, Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (COIE), Centennial College with Canadian Partners and the support from UNDP and Digital Society School Amsterdam. It is a weekend program to contribute to the Global Goals by collaborating and building solutions to pressing social or business challenges and invoking the participation and engagement of students, entrepreneurs, designers, engineers, creative thinkers, and the public community. The program uses a design process and lean methodology to guide participants ensuring that any potential solutions actually solve the problem at hand.This 2 ½-day program was developed to engage participating designers, engineers, developers, strategists, and all community members to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals by creating solutions with long-term impact.<ul><li>Friday, March 7th | 2:00-6:00pm EST</li><li>Saturday, March 8th | 8:30am-6:00pm EST</li><li>Sunday, March 9th | 9:00am-6:00pm EST</li></ul>Participants will develop innovative solutions for some of the most urgent societal challenges: Food Insecurity &amp; The Housing Crisis in Canada..This event aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities &amp; Communities).Participants will co-create human-centred, impactful solutions using design thinking,Lean methodology, rapid prototyping, and interdisciplinary collaboration. <h3>The challenges</h3>Canada faces increasing food insecurity and housing challenges, exacerbated by inflation, economic instability, supply shortages, and social inequalities.<h4>Challenge 1: Solutions for Food Insecurity in Ontario</h4><ul><li>Statistics: 15% of households in Ontario experience food insecurity, impacting over 2.3 million people, including children and seniors.</li><li>Major Causes: Rising food costs, low wages, food deserts, food waste, and accessibility barriers.</li><li>Affected Segments:</li><li>Low-income families struggling with high grocery costs.</li><li>Students and youth facing financial constraints.</li><li>Remote and Indigenous communities with limited access to fresh food.</li><li>Elderly and disabled individuals with mobility challenges affecting food access.</li></ul> <h4>Challenge 2: Solutions for Housing Crisis in Ontario</h4><ul><li>Statistics: Ontario needs 1.5 million new homes by 2031, yet housing costs are at an all-time high.</li><li>Major Causes: Lack of affordable housing, rising rental prices, restrictive zoning laws, and homelessness.</li><li>Affected Segments:</li><li>First-time homebuyers unable to afford skyrocketing property prices.</li><li>Renters facing unaffordable rent increases.</li><li>Students and young professionals struggling with high rent and housing shortages.</li><li>Homeless populations in need of sustainable shelter solutions.</li></ul>Participants will work on their problems and solutions with mentor support addressing the themes using design thinking and lean methodology. Participants work towards solutions resulting in presentation and pitching to a panel of eminent judges for a chance to win awards*. During the weekend while teams are working, they are extensively mentored by subject matter, design thinking, business model, and pitching experts.*The SDG Innovation Lab is generously supported by Diane Blake.
