Public Libraries Council (PLC) Meeting (In-person)

Library managers face significant challenges with programming and collections. From protests to media scrutiny, stakes are high, requiring a strategic response. In this session, Sue Hueman from Focus Communications will guide you in managing these issues with clarity and confidence while protecting your library’s reputation during crises. You'll leave equipped with strategies for managing public and media relations, including:
• Preparation is essential: Establish policies, understand authority, and tackle challenges proactively. 
• Communicate effectively through collection and program challenges: Frame your message, respond clearly, and manage complaints confidently. 
• Crisis communication strategies: Respond to reporters, craft key messages, and control the narrative. 
• Handle difficult situations and individuals: Use de-escalation techniques, maintain emotional resilience, and promote respectful conversations.
