CSDA/CCAD SUNDAYS: MAKERS SERIES presents HASE' KANAL - BEAUTIFUL BREATH OF OUR ANCESTORS West Coast Traditional Wood Carving with Renowned Kwagu’ł Artist Calvin HuntBritish Columbia’s Northwest Coast is the ancestral home of the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations, whose distinctive cultural heritage is recognizable in colourful, elaborately carved wooden totem poles, masks and canoes. Coming from an extended family of Kwagu’ł wood carvers, Calvin Hunt’s work has received international acclaim and is much sought after for public commissions and by private collectors. In this presentation, Calvin will take us on a journey through his 55-year career, tracing the cultural roots and spiritual values that inform his art, and he will describe the process of creating two unique masterpieces, from start to finish.Not sure you can attend live? Hunt Chief Tłasutiwalis - Nas’a̱m’yus Tłasutiwalis from his Kwagu'ł Chieftainship and Nas’a̱m’yus from his Hereditary Chieftainship of the Mowachaht, Yuquot.One of the prominent Northwest Coast artists of the Kwakwaka’wakw, Calvin A. Hunt has 55 years of carving experience. Known for his expertise in a wide range of carving, he has produced works of monumental fine art in totem poles, canoe building, dance costumes, masks, jewelry, bronze and stone carving, and silk-screened prints.
