Zula Presents Something Else! Creative Music Series Saturday, February 8 (12-4 PM) HPL – Central Library (Hamilton Room) 55 York Blvd., Hamilton, OntarioJoin us in remembering, honouring, exploring some of the history and treasured works of the legendary American jazz pianist, composer, bandleader <a href="https://www.allmusic.com/artist/thelonious-monk-mn0000490416#biography" title="https://www.allmusic.com/artist/thelonious-monk-mn0000490416#biography" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Thelonious Monk</a>. As one of the founders and architects of bebop, Monk influenced his colleagues greatly, while, inadvertently, also serving as pathmaker for creative, improvised music, and free jazz artists of future generations. This engaging afternoon activity will feature a film screening and live performances by revered jazz and creative music practitioners celebrating Monk’s legacy.Renowned New York soprano saxophonist, composer Sam Newsome will perform solo, interpreting Monk material near and dear to his heart and practice.
