Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) is an independent non-profit public art gallery committed to the acquisition, presentation, interpretation and dissemination of contemporary art for the benefit of the local arts community. Its programs explore a variety of issues and include exhibitions, talks, lectures, tours and publications. OAG has a growing permanent collection of historical and contemporary works associated with the region. It also houses the Firestone Collection of Canadian Art, which consists of more than 1,600 works of art assembled by Ottawa collectors O.J. and Isobel Firestone, who acquired the works from the early 1950s to the 1970s.__________

Exploring the intersections of Eastern and Western philosophies – and the ideas and creative processes that emerge – this year’s chat will dive into JAMES’ dynamic installation on the poet Rabindranath Tagore. The talk will present a dialogue on contemporary and historical art and invite us to explore new ways to consider works by the Group of Seven. Ed) has been the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) for over ten years where she has led the charge on the OAG Expansion project, one of the most important cultural infrastructure projects in Ottawa for a generation which opened in 2018. Expanding the gallery significantly (physical space, staffing, programming, development and marketing), she also helped to profile the importance of Ottawa’s cultural scene by creating a new, progressive space for the arts and situating it on the vanguard of evolving contemporary conversations .Alexandra is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa and the President of the Canadian Art Museum Directors Organization (CAMDO). She is also a member of the International Women’s Forum and the Association of Art Museum Directors. Rachel Kalpana JAMES lives in Ottawa and works in site-specific performance and multi-media installation. She researches, re-imagines and re-presents marginalized histories and narratives to create new ways of seeing and understanding ourselves and contemporary society. Selected exhibitions in museums and festivals in Canada and internationally include: The AGO, ROM, and OAG (Canada), DUMBO (USA), Live Art (UK), Habitat Centre (India), and Quartair (Netherlands). The Canadian High Commission in Pakistan hosted JAMES for multi-city lectures/exhibitions in 2003. Her work is supported by numerous grants and residencies including the Banff Centre and On Duration/AADK, Spain. A graduate of Carleton University and the Ontario College of Art, JAMES is a founding member and former Director of the South Asian Visual Arts Collective (SAVAC), Toronto. Bright Oriental Star (2011) is in the Collection of the OAG. Gillian McCann is an Associate Professor in the Religions and Cultures Department at Nipissing University. Her published work includes: Vanguard of the New Age. The Toronto Theosophical Society, 1891-1945 (2012) and Health and Healing in World Religions (2024). Avec :Depuis plus de dix ans, Alexandra Badzak (B. A. V., M. Éd.) siège à la direction et à la direction en chef de la Galerie d’art d’Ottawa (GAO). Figure de proue de l’un des projets d’infrastructure culturelle d’Ottawa les plus importants des vingt dernières années, Mme Badzak a géré avec brio le projet d’agrandissement de la GAO, inaugurée en 2018 : de la construction de l’espace physique à l’augmentation du personnel, en passant par la programmation, le développement, et le marketing. Depuis, elle contribue inlassablement à faire rayonner la scène culturelle d’Ottawa en créant un nouvel espace progressif dédié aux arts et en le positionnant à l’avant-garde de dialogues contemporains en constante évolution.Alexandra Badzak est professeure auxiliaire à l’Université d’Ottawa et siège à la présidence de l’Organisation des directeurs des musées d’art du Canada (CAMDO-ODMAC). Elle est également membre de l’International Women’s Forum et de l’Association of Art Museum Directors. Rachel Kalpana JAMES vit et travaille à Ottawa. Artiste de performance œuvrant également en installations multimédias, elle mène des recherches sur l’histoire et les récits marginalisés, les ré-imagine ou les re-présente, nous aidant à nous voir sous un nouvel angle et à nous comprendre comme individu et société. Son travail a été présenté dans des musées et des festivals au Canada et à l'international dont au Musée des beaux-arts de l'Ontario, au Musée Royal de l'Ontario, à la Galerie d’art d’Ottawa (Canada), ainsi qu’au DUMBO (États-Unis), à Live Art (Royaume-Uni), au Habitat Centre (Inde) et au Quartair (Pays-Bas). Le Haut-commissariat du Canada au Pakistan l’a accueillie en 2003 pour une série de conférences ayant pris place dans plusieurs villes. JAMES est récipiendaire de plusieurs subventions et a participé à de nombreuses résidences d’artiste dont au Banff Centre et à On Duration/AADK en Espagne.
