Join us for an evening of solidarity with two Refusenik youth, those bravely and morally refusing to serve in the illegal occupation, apartheid and genocide of Palestine and it's people. They will speak from personal experience on resistance to Zionist fascism within Israel, critical feminist analysis of Israeli militarism, a queer response to pinkwashing of Israeli apartheid, and how Canadians can support resistance to Israeli war crimes by making links with the resistance within Israel.In 2022, Einat Gerlitz served a sentence of 87 days for her refusal to serve in the Israeli army and has been involved in the climate justice and queer movements in Israel.In 2023, Tal Mitnick served a sentence of 185 days for being the first conscientious objector to refuse military service after October 7th and sparked a rebellion of youth across Israel who pledged to refuse to serve in Israel’s military. <ul><li>We highly recommend pre-registering for this event as a very limited amount of tickets will be available at the door by donation.</li><li>If cost is a barrier, please reach out to us at london_on@ijvcanaca.org and we will be happy to add you to the registration list.</li><li>Light snacks for those breaking their fast and a prayer space will be available for Maghreb at 7:36. Please select the complimentary light meal option during registration if you will be breaking your fast so we can prepare accordingly.</li><li>There will be time for questions and reflections near the end of the evening</li><li>There will be a small selection of Palestinian artisan products to purchase before and after the speakers by cash or e-transfer.</li><li>Please note that the event venue does have a ramp, if you have any accessibility questions or concerns please reach out to us at london_on@ijvcanada.org and we will do our best to accommedate.</li></ul> More about the speakers:Einat Gerlitz is a queer Israeli activist and conscientious objector. Going from a queer youth movement to climate activism, Einat became politically engaged and became a human rights activist. At 19, in 2022, she refused to serve in the Israeli military and was sentenced to 87 days in military prison. After her release she presented her story of conscientious objection at a UPR review in the UN. Since then she has been involved in various avenues of the struggle against the occupation, both in Israel and the Occupied West Bank.Tal Mitnick is a Israeli activist and conscientious objector. In December 2023, Tal was the first conscientious objector to refuse after October 7th and his story resonated in media outlets worldwide. He served a prolonged sentence of 185 days in military prison.Tal started his activism in the protests against the judicial overhaul, initiating a mass youth refusal letter, signed by over 250 teenagers, naming the occupation as the source of the rising fascism. Currently he is organizing and supporting future conscientious objectors.
