We acknowledge that CICA Vancouver is situated on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.CICA Vancouver is a non-profit multidisciplinary art organization established in 2021. We bring global ideas to Vancouver and local ideas to the world. Through exhibitions, panel talks, workshops, and special events, we provide a forum for everyone to step into the art and learn while having fun. We aim to enhance public engagement in the arts and bridge local and international artists for idea exchange, knowledge sharing, and collaboration.

A Panel Discussion Presented by CICA Vancouver in conjunction with Clouds for Breakfast by Daisy Parris📅 Date &amp; Time: Saturday, March 8, 2025, 2:00 – 4:00 PM 📍 Location: CICA Vancouver, 228 Abbott Street, VancouverCICA Vancouver invites you to Scars in Bloom: Art, Healing, and Reflection, a panel discussion exploring the intersection of art, storytelling, and healing, presented in conjunction with Clouds for Breakfast, a solo exhibition by Daisy Parris.This conversation brings together: Daisy Parris – British artist whose large-scale abstract paintings embrace emotional landscapes, transformation, and personal reflection. Rosemary Georgeson – Sahtu Dene &amp; Coast Salish artist, writer, and storyteller, sharing insights on Indigenous storytelling as a tool for resilience and collective healing. Xu Wang – Art therapist offering perspectives on the role of art in emotional processing, trauma, and self-reflection. <h3>Themes of Discussion:</h3> <ul><li>Art as a process of healing – How creative expression helps us confront, release, and reshape personal and collective experiences.</li><li>Storytelling and Indigenous healing practices – Exploring oral traditions, weaving, and visual storytelling as pathways to resilience.</li><li>Memory, emotion, and transformation in art – How artistic practices engage with the psychological depth of human experience.</li><li>The intersections of art and therapy – How creativity fosters connection, healing, and growth.</li></ul>As we navigate personal and shared histories, this discussion offers space to reflect on the role of art as a vessel for self-exploration, storytelling, and healing. Rosemary Georgeson:Rosemary Georgeson (Coast Salish and Sahtu Dene) was born and raised on Galiano Island and grew up in the commercial fishing industry. Since leaving the industry, Rosemary has worked as a storyteller, playwright and filmmaker. Rosemary’s passion is in bringing youth, Elders and ancestors together through storytelling. Her stories are deeply rooted in her family history and the changes she has seen that impact our west coast. The recipient of the 2009 Vancouver Mayor’s Award recognizing her as an emerging artist in community arts, Rosemary has applied her talents in dozens of theater, film, and performance projects throughout Canada. Rosemary was the 2014 storyteller in residence for the Vancouver Public Library. Georgeson has been recognized for her collaboration and sharing of stories with the award-winning play and CBC radio documentary Women in Fish. Rosemary’s latest work “The Water We Call Home” launched in July of 2022 at The Yellow House Arts Centre on Galiano Island. It has now moved across the water to Steveston BC and is now installed in The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Museum. Xu Wang:Xu is a non-binary, queer, 1.5-generation Chinese-Canadian immigrant settler. Their interest in art and healing began in childhood, when they learned Chinese watercolor painting and calligraphy from their grandmother. For Xu, art has always been a way to explore healing and personal growth. Watching their grandmother develop as a self-taught artist, Xu learned to see art as a meaningful way to engage with the complexities of the human experience.Today, Xu practices as an art therapist and clinical counselor, dedicated to making mental health care accessible for trans/queer, BIPOC, and disabled communities. Over the years, they’ve cultivated a deep appreciation for curiosity and play, weaving these into the fabric of their therapeutic work. For Xu, the value of art lies not in creating "products"—a notion often overemphasized in the art world—but in the journey of creation itself, where space is made for mess, lightness, and the joy of discovery. Daisy Parris:Daisy Parris is a painter of psychological space. Their direct text-based works and abstract paintings draw from a vernacular shaped by experience, relationships, and the peaks and valleys of human existence. Parris brings intimacy, insight, and integrity to their paintings with great psychological and emotional force. The work is imbued with the sensitivity of one who feels everything, taking viewers through unflinching narratives and moments of reflection and tenderness. An ode to human existence, their work is sometimes silent, sometimes savage, constructing self-portraits of personal battles and triumphs in a fast-moving yet contemplative assault on the canvas.Daisy Parris (b. 1993, Kent, UK) lives and works between London and Somerset, UK.

By bringing together diverse voices, we seek to explore the ways creative expression fosters resilience and growth, deepens understanding, and strengthens our connections to self, community, and the world.
