Chief Strategy Officer - International and Enterprise / Professor, University of Alberta Topic:The presentation will focus on two decades of research and innovation in the Bressler lab, positioned within an evolving innovation ecosystem in the province. Thoughts on how the landscape and opportunities within the provincial ecosystem for biofuels, renewable chemicals and biomaterials will be addressed. The Biorefining Conversions and Fermentation Laboratory at the University of Alberta has been at the forefront of developing practical technologies that transform by-products from various industries into valuable biofuels and bio commodities for over two decades. With state-of-the-art equipment and a comprehensive analytical suite, the lab is fully equipped to support research in biorefining conversions and fermentations for clean fuels, green chemistry, and cellular agriculture. Led by Dr. Bressler, the lab's research focuses on converting agricultural products to chemicals, fuels, and value-added commodities using chemical, thermal, and biological systems. The lab's initiatives include refining platforms and utilizing bioreactor systems for converting agricultural streams to biofuels using various industrial approaches. Dr. Bressler’s lab is designed to offer a multidisciplinary environment for various projects in biotechnology, chemistry, industrial microbiology, and biochemical engineering. As the technology founder behind Forge Hydrocarbons, a renewable fuels and sustainable aviation fuel company, the lab has been at the forefront of innovation in the province, and Dr. Bressler has played leadership roles in international grant investment bodies, venture capital boards, and is an active member in Creative Destruction Labs, Rocky Mountain Section.
