Together, patients, researchers and organizational leaders will explore strategies, address barriers &amp; strengthen partnerships in research.Thursday, May 8 · 9:30am - 3:30pm EDTThis event is supported by a Canadian Institute of Health Research grant. The event is co-hosted by Women's College Hospital and University Health Network (UHN).We plan to bring together people with lived experience, researchers and leaders in patient engagement to discuss important issues and propose joint solutions. Together, attendees will discuss and plan collaborative solutions to improve practices and processes in patient engagement. Our goal is to ensure that meaningful and mutually beneficial engagement of people with lived experience is effectively supported by organizations and professionals working within this space.Our main themes of the day will be:· How to engage people with lived experience in research?· How to prepare and train research teams, organizations and people with lived experience to engage in research together?· How to recognize the value and work of people with lived experience?The event will have panel discussions and facilitated workshops to address these our themes. Register early!Please note: this event will focus on how organizations implement patient engagement in research, and not on the science or "how to do" patient engagement in research for researchers. To learn more about this topic, we recommend the resources on <a href="https://kite-uhn.com/piper" title="https://kite-uhn.com/piper" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">UHN's Pride in Patient Engagement in Research</a> (PiPER) page and PiPER’s Research Day event due to be held in October 2025 (details TBC).Who should attend?· Persons with lived experience (including current and former patients, caregivers and community members)· Organizational leaders in patient engagement· Staff who facilitate or drive patient engagement in research processes (for example, contracting, people &amp; culture, research grants, finance, strategy and legal).· Researchers involved in patient engagement who are passionate about driving system changeThe event is free to attend. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Virtual attendance is also available for those unable to travel and/or located outside of Toronto. We welcome attendees from anywhere in Canada and further afield.A small number of travel bursaries are available for local travel (TTC, or parking costs) for people with lived experience who would like to attend but for whom this cost would be a barrier.
