Members of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers are required to complete annual professional development, which must include training related to social work ethics.

What are the responsibilities and guidelines of ethical marketing for social workers? Join us for a virtual webinar about ethical marketing practices. We will explore various options for marketing and self-promotion for clinical entrepreneurs and discuss ethical concerns that certain common strategies raise for social workers. The newly revised Code of Ethics &amp; Standards of Practice (NSCSW &amp; CASW) offer guidance to how Clinical Specialists can market their services in an ethical way. Clinicians and private practitioners have rights, responsibilities, and resources to support them in ethical marketing. At times, it can be confusing to know what you can, should, and shouldn’t do as a clinical specialist when operating your own business. However, there are resources and supports available to you! This session will empower clinical specialists and other private practitioners with the knowledge, resources, and guidance to ethically market your social work business while staying aligned with promising practices and the Code of Ethics &amp; Standards of Practice. OBJECTIVES<ul><li>Knowledge: Learn about marketing strategies for self-employed clinicians; better understand the inherent power dynamics and issues of justice central to marketing of therapeutic services and supports.</li><li>Skills: Analyze common self-promotion initiatives for ethical issues; apply an intersection and anti-oppressive lens when creating and delivering promotions of therapeutic services and supports.</li><li>Values: Expanding of worldview, beliefs, and assumptions around ethical marketing and the inherent power dynamics that could impact clinicians and service users.</li></ul> <h3>Speakers</h3>Sam Sarty, RSW, is a Clinical Specialist practicing in Punamu'kwati'jk. Her private practice, Following Seas Psychotherapy, specializes in trauma-focused therapy for helping professionals including healthcare providers, first responders, and veterans. She is also passionate about supporting fellow clinicians’ practice as a supervisor so they can feel good about the work they do and how they promote it. <h3>Eligibility</h3>This event is only for members of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW). All active, associate, retired associate, and student members are welcome to attend; our professional development programming is part of our member services funded by annual registration fees.
