Where Do We Go Now? – Thematic Movie

The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers is an inclusive, non-profit, arts-based society that exists to encourage film making as art, reflecting and challenging our changing cultural landscape through production and exhibition of the Filmmaker.We encourage all levels of membership by providing resources and workshops to increase members’ skills and achieve personal arts-based expression. Through exhibitions and community outreach we will strive to increase the public awareness of the CSIF, its Producing Members and their work.The Mission of the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF) is to encourage, support and endorse the production and exhibition of film in an artistic, social and cultural context. The CSIF is structured in such a way as to enable filmmakers to learn, develop and practice film making in an environment free from box office pressure, securing integrity and allowing for the development of an indigenous film language.

In honour of Arab Heritage Month we'll be screening Nadine Labaki's film  Where Do We Go Now?

Thematic Movies is a series presented by CSIF in which we watch a film that is relevant to the month we are in. For April it's Arab Heritage Month and we'll be watching the 2011 film Where Do We Go Now?This screening is co-presented by the Calgary Arab Arts &amp; Culture Society. Bill C-232, passed in November 2021, officially designates April as Arab Heritage Month. This legislative move opens up avenues for Arab Canadians to proudly exhibit the richness of their cultural heritage. The Calgary Arab Arts &amp; Culture Society looks to celebrate Arab Heritage Month by facilitating the sharing of Arab culture through music, dance, visual arts, and food every year. CSIF was founded in 1978 by a collective of twelve filmmakers who saw the growing need for film resources and film equipment on the traditional Treaty 7 territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Iyarhe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), also known as Calgary, Alberta. Now over 40 years later we are an integral part of the growing cultural community in Calgary and are excited about new collaborations and opportunities.
