The City of Ottawa, along with its community partners, is launching a new campaign called Ottawa Stops Hate Together, to rally against hate crimes and promote inclusion. This campaign is in response to a rise in hate and bias-related incidents in the city. For this tour the City is partnering with Don Kwan, an Ottawa-based multidisciplinary artist, who’s grown up around Chinatown and seen the numerous changes this dynamic landscape has undergone. Join us rain or shine for a tour of Ottawa’s diverse and welcoming Chinatown!Tour Description: Throughout the walk, participants will explore one of Ottawa's most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods, learning about the history, diverse cultures, and architectural features of Chinatown. Highlights include businesses, public murals, sidewalk art, and, of course, the iconic Chinatown Arch. Each tour features a variety of unique and engaging events designed to enhance the experience. Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy a special session with an invited guest, providing insights, snacks, stories, and personal perspectives that deepen the connection to the community and its culture.Note about dietary restrictions:<ul><li>Unfortunately, some of the food on this tour is NOT Gluten-Free friendly</li><li>If you have severe allergies to ingredients, please note them in the registration form when you sign up</li></ul>Bio: Don Kwan is an Ottawa-based multidisciplinary artist, third-generation Chinese Canadian, who turns to his own experiences and challenges as a gay, East Asian artist to ground in broader conversations about identity, representations, and inter-generational memory-making in the diaspora. Don weaves his personal experiences and stories into each tour and has been leading walking tours of Ottawa's Chinatown since 2009.#donkwanartDistance: 1kmDuration: 1.5 hour (includes extra time at the end for questions)--- La Ville d’Ottawa, aux côtés de ses partenaires communautaires, lance une nouvelle campagne intitulée Ottawa unis contre la haine, pour se rassembler et s’opposer aux crimes haineux et promouvoir l’inclusion. Cette campagne fait suite à une augmentation des incidents liés à la haine et aux préjugés dans la ville. Pour cette visite, la Ville s’associe à Don Kwan, un artiste multidisciplinaire basé à Ottawa, qui a grandi dans le secteur du quartier chinois et a observé les nombreux changements qu’a connus ce quartier dynamique. Joignez‑vous à nous, beau temps, mauvais temps, pour une visite du quartier chinois diversifié et accueillant d’Ottawa! Description de la visite : Tout au long de la promenade, les participants pourront découvrir l’un des quartiers les plus diversifiés et les plus dynamiques d’Ottawa, son histoire, ses cultures et ses détails architecturaux. Les points saillants de la visite comprennent notamment des entreprises, des peintures murales publiques, des œuvres d’art sur les trottoirs et, bien sûr, l’emblématique arche du quartier chinois. Chaque visite comprend une variété d’événements uniques et attrayants conçus pour enrichir l’expérience. Les participants auront également l’occasion de participer à une séance spéciale avec un invité, qui partagera des réflexions, des collations, des histoires et des perspectives personnelles qui approfondiront le lien avec la communauté et sa culture.Remarque concernant les restrictions alimentaires :<ul><li>Malheureusement, certains des aliments proposés dans le cadre de cette visite ne sont PAS sans gluten.</li><li>Si vous avez des allergies sévères à certains ingrédients, veuillez les indiquer dans le formulaire d’inscription au moment de vous inscrire.</li></ul>Biographie : Don Kwan est un artiste multidisciplinaire basé à Ottawa, Canadien d’origine chinoise de la troisième génération, qui transforme ses propres expériences et défis en tant qu’artiste homosexuel d’Asie de l’Est en conversations plus larges portant sur l’identité, les représentations et l’élaboration de la mémoire intergénérationnelle dans la diaspora. Don intègre ses expériences et ses histoires personnelles à chaque visite.
