DESCRIPTIONLearn how your existing counselling skills can be applied to working with survivors of sexual violence. From an anti-oppressive perspective, we will discuss common themes in sexual violence counselling, healing from sexual trauma, helpful counselling strategies for survivors, and therapist self-care. Includes a review of case studies.Sponsored by Vancouver Island branch. PRESENTERShay Manerikar, MSW RSW (they/them) is a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work from UBC Okanagan. Shay has a private practice where they work primarily with survivors of sexual violence and folks identifying as trans, non-binary, or queer. They have 6 years of experience working with survivors of childhood sexual abuse and sexual assault, and are passionate about educating other therapists about sexual trauma work. They are passionate and committed to an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approach to counselling that is grounded in compassion, authentic connection, community care, and liberation.ZOOMThis event will be delivered on Zoom.
