Anansi & The Archetype: An Artist in Residence Showcase

A.F.R.O. (Artist for Recreating Opportunities)is Nia Centre for the Arts' Youth Steering Committee. A.F.R.O. is currently made up of 15 young artists that engage in artistic and life-skills development opportunities, with a key objective to unify the and enrich the Afro-Diasporic community through the arts with culture and purpose.Nia Centre for the Artsis a Toronto-based not-for-profit organization that supports, showcases and promotes an appreciation of arts from across the African Diaspora. We create opportunities for young people to develop healthy identities and for communities to enhance their creative capacities.  Our programming includes facilitation training, exhibitions, mentorship and culturally-specific arts experiences.

Our first cohort of the 2025 Artist in Resident program invite you to witness their hard work through an artist talk and dance performance!

Nia Centre for the Arts

As the first iteration of the 2025 Artist in Residence program comes to an end, we invite you to witness the incredible artistic talent of our visual artist and and dancer in resident! Visual Arts ResidentBrandon Baghaee will be presenting his piece 'Anansi', amongst other works, in the Artist Studio which will be open to the public for viewing and will be followed by an artist talk on his process and inspiration behind his detailed piece. Dance ResidentBuyi Philip will be presenting a solo performance of a piece entitled ‘The Archetype’ using symbolic props to illustrate the individual human’s evolution through 4 stages.
