Join us for a screening of the film, GenSilent, followed by a Q&A about LGBT+ elder care with filmmaker Stu Maddux and Julien Rougerie.

About this Event

Join us March 19th at 1:30 pm for Gay & Grey Montreal's LGBTQ Caregiving Conference : Care Outside the Closet. This event will begin with a screening of the film, GenSilent, a documentary that documents the realities that may be faced by LGBTQ seniors seeking out support for end-of-life events. After the screening, we will lead a discussion about long term care for LGBT+ seniors with the award-winning filmmaker, Stu Maddux, and the manager of Montreal's Aging Gayfully program from Fondation Émergence, Julien Rougerie.

Presentations will be in English. The Q&A discussion will be bilingual.

Nous vous invitons à nous joindre le 19 mars entre 13h30 et 16h00 pour un évènement de Gay & Grey Montréal « Caregiving Conference-Care outside the closet ». Nous visionnerons le documentaire GenSilent qui document les réalités qui peuvent être vécues par les personnes âgées LGBTQ qui cherchent des soutiens de fin de vie. Après le film, nous animerons une période d’échanges avec le cinéaste primé Stu Maddux du Clowder Group et le chargé de programme  Pour que vieillir soit gai de la Fondation Émergence, Julien Rougerie.

Les présentations se feront en anglais. La période de questions sera bilingue.

Stu Maddux is an award-winning producer and director of non-fiction media with international credits including Pluto TV, Here TV, PBS, Showtime, TLC, VH1, Spike,Logo, CMT, and BBC.

His work has been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, VICE, and NPR’s Morning Edition and exhibited at film festivals around the world.

His honors include seven regional Emmy Awards, as well as awards from film festivals on five continents.

Maddux is an outspoken activist for the LGBTQ aging and LGBTQ history movements. He has spoken at national conferences including the Out & Equal, Creating Change, the American Psychological Association, and the American Society on Aging.

He is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Julien Rougerie graduated in 2011 with a master’s degree in Project Management from Sorbonne University in Paris. Ever since, he got involved in a variety of projects in the non-profit sector in France, the US and Canada. Appalled by the invisibility of LGBTQ+ seniors, he joined Fondation Émergence in April 2017 to run the Aging Gayfully program, dedicated to raising awareness about sexual and gender diversity in senior settings. Part of his job includes giving training sessions to workers offering services to seniors in order to help them create more welcoming environments to LGBTQ+ seniors. Since May 2019, he also manages Fondation Émergence’s new program: Chosen Family, dedicated to support LGBTQ+ informal caregivers.

Julien Rougerie est diplômé en 2011 d’un Master en gestion de projets à l’université de la Sorbonne, il a œuvré depuis en tant que professionnel de la gestion pour des projets ou organismes à but non lucratif en France, aux États-Unis et au Québec. Interpellé par l’invisibilité des personnes aînées LGBTQ+, il a rejoint la Fondation Émergence en avril 2017 pour porter leur cause en tant que responsable du programme Pour que vieillir soit gai, un programme de sensibilisation des milieux aînés à la diversité sexuelle et de genre. C'est lui qui offre notamment les formations pour aider les professionnels à offrir des services plus accueillants et plus inclusifs envers les personnes aînées LGBTQ+. Depuis mai 2019, Julien est également responsable du programme Famille choisie : un programme de soutien et d’accompagnement pour les personnes proches aidantes LGBTQ+.
