Each year, our past winners perform for the society, creating one of the best recital series in the Lower Mainland. VWMS Scholarship Winner, Amanda Andrishak shares her love of Chopin and Ravel - and something new to many ears...

Amanda Andrishak has won multiple awards for her playing . Known for deeply musical, fluid technical work and emotionally moving performances - this is what sets an emerging artist ahead of the pack. Amanda’s affinity for Chopin and Ravel is palpable. She finesses the subtle nuances out of each movement in Ravel’s “Le Tombeau de Couperin” - nimbly navigating the keys so as to give us the illusion that playing the work is effortless.With equal ease, Amanda shines a light on both the intimacy and bravura of Chopin - in her performances of his fourth Ballade and Etude no.10. This is the playing that garnered her an award in our 2020 Scholarship Competition!New to many ears will be the evocative “Out of Silence” by American turn of the century composer, William Grant Still. This prolific BIPOC composer was also the first African American to conduct a professional symphony orchestra in the USA. His output of nearly 200 works includes symphonies, operas, ballets, choral works, chamber music, art song and works for solo instruments. “Out of Silence” is from a collection composed in 1939, entitled Seven Traceries. Amanda brings this gem to life in this beautiful digital recItal. Self-recorded in her professor’s studio at Indiana University, this very intimate performance is sure to captivate your heart and your imagination.
