In this session, we will use art, drama and school experiences to help parents engage their kids in conversation about race. A copy of Talking to Our Children About Racism brochure will be available to download after the webinar. Lucy Lu is s a Chinese-Vietnamese Canadian practicing as an Art Therapist, counselling therapist, and artist currently based in Edmonton. She has her Masters in Creative Arts Counselling from Concordia University in Montreal (2007), is a Registered Art Therapist and Certified Canadian Counsellor and clinical supervisor for students and graduates in art and expressive art therapy. She is the artistic director of Third Space Playback Theatre Edmonton, which supports community dialogue through participatory theatre. Her clinical focus has been working with children, adults and families from urban indigenous communities and diverse cultural communities. She has published and presented on art therapy with cultural and indigenous communities and decolonizing practice, as well as the use of playback theatre to process collective trauma. Bill Yong (he/him) is a second generation Chinese drama therapist and multi-disciplinary theatre artist currently based in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal). He has his Masters in Creative Arts Therapies from Concordia University, Bachelors in Education from University of Alberta and is a Certified Canadian Counsellor. Currently, he works as an addictions counsellor at Chabad Lifeline outpatient centre and within the English Montreal School Board. He is part of the Edmonton based playback group called the Third Space Playback utilizing theatre to hold space and have integrative conversations. Jesiebelle Salcedo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Canadian Studies, and a Bachelor of Elementary Education specializing in English as an Additional Language from the University of Calgary. She currently works as a teacher in Alberta. To date, she has worked with many first generation and immigrant youth both in local non-profit settings and within the school system, fueling her passion for anti-Black and anti-racism education. In her spare time, she enjoys baking up a storm for her friends and loved ones, reading, and writing to process the world around her.Born in 1979 in Kyoto, Japan. Atsushi Ono first became fascinated by magic as an elementary school student after seeing magic performed on television. Looking to broaden his horizons, in 2008 he moved to Canada and began creating a series of original acts. In 2009, the act he created earned him 2nd place and the People&#x27;s Choice Award at the Society of American Magicians (SAM) in Buffalo, NY, and the People&#x27;s Choice Award at the convention of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM - the world&#x27;s largest magical arts organization) in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2010, he was invited to perform at the most renowned FFFF convention (Fecher&#x27;s Finger Flicking Frolic), the most prestigious gathering of close-up magicians in the world. He now resides in Canada and performs in Canada, the United States, and Japan. His relaxed charm, sense of humor and creative approach to performing have made him a popular magician and entertainer who is equally at home performing on stage at large events and up close for small groups.Zoom details for this meeting will be shared through your order confirmation email from Eventbrite.
