In this session, we will engage youth and young adults in conversations about race by identifying and challenging discriminatory behaviours in school and sports. A copy of Talking to Our Children About Racism brochure will be available to download after the webinar. Young In Kim is a Canada Connects program facilitator and a registered social worker at Calgary Catholic Immigration Society, providing settlement and social-emotional support to newcomers by matching them with Canadian-established volunteers in Calgary. Previously, she worked with newcomers directly as a settlement counselor at the same agency for their settlement and integration into Canadian society. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa, and a Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University. She is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Calgary, providing supervision and mentoring to students during their field practicum. Young In also has work experience in the non-profit sector with seniors with diverse background in New York. She is an active volunteer with non-profit groups, assisting Calgary Korean Health Advocacy Society and Certified Listeners Society.Dr. Gina Ko is an Associate Director and Clinical Supervisor at City University, Calgary Campus in their Master of Counselling Program. Gina has a private practice and thrives in working with clients to cultivate meaningful therapeutic relationships. Gina’s clients appreciate her warmth, empathy, and sense of humour. Gina volunteers at Eastside Community Mental Health Services (Wood’s Homes) as a clinician, and clients can access no-cost counselling. Gina completed her Ph.D. in Educational leadership at the University of Calgary. The title of her thesis is “The Experiences of Youth from Immigrant and Refugee Backgrounds in a Social Justice Leadership Program: A Participatory Action Research Photovoice Project.” Knowing there are structural injustices and oppression, Gina is passionate about hearing youth’s voices and working with them to support their social justice endeavours. Gina would like to further her research in the areas of minoritized clients’ mental health and wellbeing. Tom Chau holds a Bachelor of Education from University of Calgary. He currently works as a physical education teacher in AB. and has many years of experience coaching basketball, volleyball and badminton in school. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching his son’s basketball team, working out, playing golf and hanging out with his children.Born in 1979 in Kyoto, Japan. Atsushi Ono first became fascinated by magic as an elementary school student after seeing magic performed on television. Looking to broaden his horizons, in 2008 he moved to Canada and began creating a series of original acts. In 2009, the act he created earned him 2nd place and the People&#x27;s Choice Award at the Society of American Magicians (SAM) in Buffalo, NY, and the People&#x27;s Choice Award at the convention of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM - the world&#x27;s largest magical arts organization) in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2010, he was invited to perform at the most renowned FFFF convention (Fecher&#x27;s Finger Flicking Frolic), the most prestigious gathering of close-up magicians in the world. He now resides in Canada and performs in Canada, the United States, and Japan. His relaxed charm, sense of humor and creative approach to performing have made him a popular magician and entertainer who is equally at home performing on stage at large events and up close for small groups.Zoom details for this meeting will be shared through your order confirmation email from Eventbrite.
