Andrew MacDonald will discuss his work on Tracking PEI Coastal Erosion Using Pin Measurements and Drone Technology

Prince Edward Island is a unique place to study coastal erosion due to inherently vulnerable sandstone base. Since 2014 the UPEI Climate Research Lab has conducted coastal erosion monitoring on PEI using a variety of techniques. This webinar will discuss measuring coastal erosion “on-the-ground” using the traditional peg-line technique as well as “in-the-air” using drones.

Andy has worked with the UPEI Climate Research Lab since 2015 in various roles and is currently an RPAS Pilot and Research Assistant. He joined the Climate Lab team in 2015 as a student, focusing on coastal erosion, shoreline armouring, and RPAS technology, completing his Masters of Environmental Science in 2018. Currently, he is working on projects that include provincial coastal erosion monitoring, infrastructure monitoring, and precision agriculture.
