Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) Module 2

The Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-Oriented Research (SCPOR) is a partnership of organizations that support patient-oriented research in Saskatchewan. SCPOR’s objectives are to:Identify and address the needs of patients, policy makers, and health professionals by supporting patient-oriented research;Provide links to methods expertise in patient-oriented research;Assist decision makers and investigators to identify and design research studies, conduct statistical analyses, manage data, provide and teach project management skills, and ensure studies meet regulatory standards;Advance methods and training in comparative effectiveness research and develop the next generation of methodologists;Facilitate access to Saskatchewan health data and integrate existing or new databases;Provide traineeships for University students interested in hands-on experience in patient-oriented research (See Student Page).SCPOR is also committed to supporting Rural and Indigenous health research in the province. The Indigenous Platform advises and contributes to SCPOR programs and activities to advance SCPOR’s core values and build capacity in Indigenous-specific engagement and research across the province.

SPOR modules are designed to give research teams a foundational understanding of patient-oriented research.

<h2><strong>Format of </strong>Online<strong> SPOR Modules:</strong></h2><p>Online SPOR Modules consists of <strong>three </strong>separate sessions:</p><ul><li>Module 1 Part A </li><li>Module 1 Part B</li><li>Module 2</li></ul><p>Each session must be registered for separately. </p><p>This session, and it's associated pre-work, is the third of the three sessions that we offer, and covers <strong>Module 2: Fundamentals of Health Research in Canada</strong>.</p><ul><li>Attendees are required to complete both Module 1 Part A and Module 1 Part B in order to receive their SPOR Module 1 Certificate of Completion. </li><li>Attendees are required to complete Module 2: Fundamentals of Health Research in Canada in order to receive their SPOR Module 2 Certificate of Completion. </li><li>Attendees are required to take sessions in order (i.e. you must take Module 1 Part A before Module 1 Part B).</li></ul><h3>Pre-work for live Online SPOR Modules Sessions:</h3><ul><li>Before attending each session, participants are required to complete pre-work. Pre-work includes watching videos, completing quizzes and assignments, and contributing to discussion boards. </li><li><em>Pre-work is due at noon the day before the scheduled live session.</em> Completion of the pre-work on time is required for participation in the live session. </li><li>Associated pre-work will be available on Moodle. Five days before the scheduled live session, you will receive a link to access the Moodle course. Pre-work <em>for each session</em> will take an estimated 60-90 minutes to complete. Please ensure you will have adequate time in your schedule to complete the content before you sign up for a live session. </li></ul><p><em>If you have concerns about virtual learning or require support accessing technology, please contact Sarah Fang at sfang@hqc.sk.ca.</em></p><h3>About SPOR Modules</h3><p>The Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) modules are designed to give patients a foundational understanding of the research process to help prepare them for their role as patient/family advisor on a research team. SPOR modules are also intended to help equip patients, researchers and other stakeholders (i.e., health care professionals and system decision-makers) with the skills necessary to engage meaningfully in a variety of roles, including: governance, peer review or other committee work, priority-setting, and the conduct of patient-oriented research. </p><p>The goals of the modules are to help participants:</p><ul><li>acquire foundational knowledge about health research to allow them to become full-fledged members of a research team;</li><li>build mutually beneficial partnerships for conducting patient oriented research; and</li><li>work as a team to carry out patient-oriented research and produce high-quality scientific knowledge in a health-related field.</li></ul><p>The SPOR program was created to support patients, researchers, health–care providers and health-care decision-makers interested in or engaged in patient-oriented research. The information may not be new to everyone depending on their background, however, the co-learning opportunity will help individuals see how their knowledge and experience differs from others on the team, and where they can contribute their unique knowledge to the research project. Patients, principal investigators and students/trainees working on a SCPOR affiliated patient-oriented research team are strongly encouraged to attend the training sessions. </p><h2></h2><p><em>Please note that this event will only take place with 6 or more attendees.</em></p>
