The SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies at SFU, together with Peopling the Past, will host a workshop on public scholarship strategies

<p>The <a href="https://www.sfu.ca/hellenic-studies.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies</a> at Simon Fraser University is pleased  to present a workshop on public scholarship led by <a href="https://peoplingthepast.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Peopling the Past</a>, a digital humanities initiative that produces and hosts free, open-access resources for teaching and learning about real people in the ancient Mediterranean world. </p><p>This event consists of two parts. Individuals wishing to attend both parts of the workshop must register separately for each section of the event. <strong>Please read the following registration instructions carefully.</strong></p>

<h2>Part I: Public Scholarship Presentation (Zoom Webinar)</h2><h3>11:00 AM - 12:00 PM PT</h3><p>The first part of the event will include one hour of presentations from Peopling the Past founders, <a href="https://www.sfu.ca/hellenic-studies/about/people/s-higgins.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sabrina Higgins</a> (Simon Fraser University), <a href="https://cnrs.ubc.ca/people/megan-daniels/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Megan Daniels</a> (University of British Columbia), <a href="https://history.acadiau.ca/faculty/chelsea-gardner.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Chelsea A.M. Gardner</a> (Acadia University), <a href="https://dornsife.usc.edu/cf/faculty-and-staff/staff.cfm?pid=1097999" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Carolyn M. Laferrière</a> (University of Southern California), <a href="https://chssdepts.wwu.edu/people/johnst27" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Christine L. Johnston</a> (Western Washington University), and <a href="https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/classics/faculty/melissa-funke.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Melissa Funke</a> (University of Winnipeg). The six scholars will introduce their multi-media digital humanities initiative, which consists of a podcast, video series, and blog. Each will share their tips for effective public scholarship, reflecting on the challenges they have faced through their own public-facing initiatives. </p><h3>How to register </h3><p>Attending this part of the workshop <strong>requires registration through Eventbrite using this page</strong>. <h2>Part II: Breakout Room Sessions (Zoom Meeting) </h2><h3>12:15 - 1:15 PM PT</h3><p>Following the webinar, Peopling the Past will host a workshop <strong>exclusively for graduate students</strong> who are interested in engaging with public scholarship. In small working groups, students will have the opportunity to critically examine how they might adapt their own research to engage with communities beyond academia.
