Digital Arts Resource Centre is a not-for-profit, artist-run media art centre that fosters the growth and development of artists through access to equipment, training, mentorship, and programming. This two session workshop will explore  tools and creative techniques for recording, processing, mixing and arranging audio for sound art.

This two session online workshop will explore a variety of tools and creative techniques for recording, processing, mixing and arranging audio for sound art. In the first session, we’ll consider alternative ways of listening and discuss several key elements of sound art. Participants will collect field recordings and samples to use to experiment with audio manipulation software. In the second session, we’ll edit and arrange our recordings into a sonic composition. This workshop uses Ableton Live but participants are welcome to use any digital audio workstation they feel comfortable with. This workshop will provide an overview of Ableton Live and participants will learn how to develop a workflow and to edit and arrange audio clips. Participants are encouraged to bring their own audio files but additional audio files will be available to use as well. Participants will need access to: <ul><li>A Mac or PC computer with headphones or speakers</li><li>A Zoom account</li><li>Any multi-channel DAW (Ableton, Reaper, Audition, Pro Tools, Logic, etc.) </li><li>Audio manipulation freeware (Link will be sent out)</li><li>(Optional) A recording device (handheld recorder, smart phone, etc.)</li></ul>Registration Session 1: Thursday June 3rd, 5pm-8pmSession 2: Thursday June 10th, 5pm-8pmThis workshop is PWYC by donation (with a minimum donation of $40 to register). AccessibilityThis workshop will be presented online via Zoom with live closed captioning provided. Instructor<a href="https://deighanmoss.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">D Morrison</a> is a sound artist, composer, and audio post mixer who works with audio, video, and 3D environments to create immersive digital settings. As a freelance creative, D edits, mixes, and composes for independent features, short films, and documentaries. They hold a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa and have completed programs in Music Industry Arts and Sound Design and Production. D produces experimental music and has performed at Pop Montreal and OXW. Their artistic practice is informed by an interest in new media and a fascination with the interaction between visual and auditory arts.
