CESBA is a provincial non-profit association that represents, advocates for and supports adult and continuing education (A&CE) program staff working in school boards across Ontario.In addition to advocacy and professional development opportunities, we support and build capacity for professionals working in the A&CE sector through information, tools, resources and community partnerships.Our members provide programs to over 300,000 adult learners in Ontario every year. Earl Lambert, Cree-Metis Motivational Speaker & Inspirational Storyteller, shares his valuable wisdom with us.

This event is primarily for CESBA members - those working in adult and continuing education through Ontario Boards of Education or their affiliates. Please use your work email to register.Since time immemorial Indigenous people have occupied Turtle Island, aka North America. We once had our own education systems and ways of teaching and learning that was not only highly effective, but was essential in passing on our heritage, oral traditions, rich cultural wisdom and lessons for survival. The 15th century would introduce us to a new world and with the shake of a hand we would agree to share land with our European counterparts. Our only request was a promise to co-exist in peace and unity, with respect being the leading principle in our newfound friendships. Unfortunately, many of those promises were left unfulfilled and the next 500 years would bring much loss, hardship and tragedy to Indigenous communities. Colonization and government attempts at assimilation would ignore and even condemn Indigenous ways of knowing, and our traditional ways of learning and being would become lost in the mix of a more dominant culture. Today, Canada acknowledges the fact the relationship was broken due to the promise of peace, respect and friendship not being honored… and how the effects are still felt today. So in order to move forward, the relationship between Indigenous people and our non-Indigenous counterparts would need to be healed and reconciled. Though there have been many steps taken and much progress made by various levels of government and institutions across Canada, we still have a long way to go. It is only through a sincere and keen willingness to take the time to understand the truth about the dark part of Canadas history and the impact it has had on Indigenous people, that we can build upon reconciliation.With all of this in mind, Earl Lambert, Cree-Metis Motivational Speaker &amp; Inspirational Storyteller, shares his valuable wisdom with us in the hopes that he can bridge the gap that exists in understanding Indigenous peoples, reconcile relationships and in accordance with what was once promised 500 years ago, help us move forward together in peace, unity and respect.
