Big Ideas in Mental Health is an ongoing panel discussion series organized by the social justice committee of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers. All panels in this series are free to attend, and all Nova Scotians are welcome.

<h1>Big Ideas: Conversations about mental health</h1><h2>A panel discussion on Indigenous mental health in Nova Scotia</h2><p>The Social Justice Committee at the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers is hosting a panel discussion featuring first voice participants and social workers in honor of National Indigenous History Month. This panel will focus on the unique needs and issues facing Indigenous communities when accessing mental health care services in Nova Scotia.</p><p>If the Zoom event reaches capacity, we intend to livestream on the NSCSW Facebook page, and to share a recording there afterwards for those who are unable to join the live event.</p><p>A video of a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=120168450008073&amp;ref=watch_permalink" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">previous <em>Big Ideas</em> panel discussion is available to watch online</a>. Earlier this year, the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers published a <a href="https://nscsw.org/mental-health-paper/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">research paper </a>about mental health care in this province, and the role of social work in those systems. Our well-being is inextricably linked to our lived experience, our environment, and our social relationships. </p><h3>Panelists</h3><p><strong>Crystal Hill</strong>, BSW, RSW, is the Indigenous Social Worker employed with Nova Scotia Legal Aid, and also serves on the NSCSW Professional Development Committee. She is a member of Glooscap First Nation in Hantsport.
</p><p><strong>Robyn Hazard</strong>, MSW, RSW is an aboriginal who grew up both on and off reserve, and a second generation residential school survivor. Robyn has worked for many years in different aspects of social work, and is on her sixth year as the leading therapist with Alsusuti Aboriginal Crisis Counselling Services.
</p><p>Our third panelist is a first voice speaker with lived experience.
