Free City Cycling Strategies Clinics for Grades 4-12 Students in Edmonton communities!

To support active transportation in Edmonton, Ever Active Schools is recruiting students in Grades 4 - 12 to participate in free City Cycling Strategies clinics. This initiative aims to increase the cycling knowledge, community awareness, safety, and confidence of student cyclists through comprehensive cycling clinics.These two-day cycling clinics, that run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 - 8:30pm, will be lead by Ever Active Schools and local, experienced cycling enthusiasts who will guide participants through:<ul><li>helmet and bike knowledge and basic bicycle maintenance</li><li>route mapping</li><li>bicycle handling, signaling and safe, secure storage</li><li>navigating intersections, infrastructure, and routes</li><li>cycling etiquette</li><li>on-road guided riding.</li></ul>Prior to the clinic:<ul><li>participants will complete this COVID 19 self assessment tool: https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Journey/COVID-19/Pages/Assessment.aspx</li></ul>Upon arrival at a clinic:<ul><li>participants will complete cycling literacy surveys to determine baseline knowledge/skill level and identify barriers to safe cycling in your community</li><li>participants will participate in helmet and bicycle safety and sizing checks of their own equipment.</li></ul>Program perks:<ul><li>visits to interesting and informative bike stops </li><li>small on-road session sizes (8 participants maximum), with a lead and a sweep</li><li>2.5 hour guided on-road riding to practise skills</li><li>free snacks</li><li>certificate of course completion.</li></ul>PLEASE NOTE: This is not a learn-to-bike program. These clinics are intended to hone skills and increase awareness of the cycling infrastructure in Edmonton and include a 2.5 hour community-wide ride.
