Release, Rip, Recreate - Art Therapy Experience

My name is Lynnea Thorkelson (she/her). I am a Registered Art Therapist who enjoys facilitating theraputic experiences. I write and create visual works, and am regularly on the hunt for inspiration. I am a lover of ideas, nature, community and expression.I have prairie roots and west coast branches. I live on the unceded, traditional lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations. I am a third generation settler, and I am grateful for the opportunity to thrive here. Human Being Expressive

This offering allows us to put down on paper what no longer serves us and creatively engage in building a new experience for ourselves.

<p></p><p>One of my favourite practices to let go and re-imagine!  Using basic art materials, we'll explore what colours and expressions are ready to move through us and work with what wants to be deconstructed. </p><p>Let's play! </p><h3></h3><h3>General structure for our time together:</h3><ul><li>Welcome, orientating, check-in, landing, grounding (slowing down, breathing, embodying)</li><li>Invitation into art making - where your impulses take the lead!</li><li>Pause, optional process, share</li><li>Invitation into deconstructing, re-working art creation - where deeper grappling, creativity and reimagining may occur.</li><li>Sharing, group closing and goodbyes</li></ul><h3></h3><h3>Materials needed: </h3><ul><li>A few sheets of white paper (a heavier weight is nice, such as mixed media or watercolour paper), bigger than a standard page is usually better (I like to use 14x17 or larger), but use what you have!</li><li>Scissors or something used to cut paper.</li><li>Pastels (oil/chalk), markers, crayons, pencil crayons, and  a pencil sharpener helps too!</li><li>Collage materials (pictures, magazine pages, newspaper, book pages, etc). </li><li>Tape, to secure your page. </li><li>A glue stick and/or liquid glue. </li><li>Paints: one would be enough such as watercolour <em>or</em> acrylic. If you choose paints, an assortment of brushes as well. Water for washing brushes and something to help you wipe up if need be. </li></ul><h3></h3><h3>Zoom Orientation: </h3><ul><li>Seeing you clearly is important, as is, if possible, an ability to see your art while you are creating. </li><li>Hearing you clearly is also important. If possible, have headphones with a mic on hand, ensure there is not a great deal of background noise or if there is, use the mute button. </li><li>Knowing your name and how you'd like to be referred to is another important detail. Use your real name for your account and add your pronouns into the mix too. </li><li>Arrive prepared with all your creature comforts and supplies.</li><li>If you have to leave, turn off your video and mute before you do so to minimize distractions. </li><li><em>Sign in a few minutes early.</em> Arrive prepared to spend uninterrupted time with yourself and the group.
