During this bioblitz, you will observe benthics, freshwater mussels, fish, and the interface with the terrestrial landscape.

Join Gary Pritchard of Curve Lake First Nation and principal consultant, 4 Directions of Conservation. On the shores of the Black River in Treaty Territory 20 and Williams Treaties, Gary will teach us about decolonizing conservation and learning to value all of our relations. All life deserves a space on the landscape, and all of our spiritual energy is tied together. Trying to govern how each individual species behaves hasn’t worked. Conservation must move beyond managing for species at risk and trying to eradicate the species that don’t serve us. In this bioblitz you will learn that it’s all inter-connected: Healthy watersheds, healthy forests, healthy landscapes &amp; healthy people.What water is telling us about its overall health? We will observe benthics, freshwater mussels, fish, and the interface with the terrestrial landscape.Bring a clear and open mind. There will be ceremony to begin each session. Participants must attend the following two webinars in order to participate in this outdoor bioblitz.* <ol><li>Indigenous Conservation Strategies. Thursday September 23, 7 – 9 pm via Zoom</li><li>Common Myths of Indigenous Peoples. Thursday September 30th, 7 – 9 pm via Zoom. </li></ol>*When you register for the outdoor bioblitzes, you are automatically registered for the webinars. Registration is required for this event. Maximum of 20 participants. No experience necessary.
