the fifty fifty arts collective, located in unceded and occupied Lekwungen Territories (Victoria, BC), is a not for profit, volunteer-run, multi-disciplinary programming space that supports both emerging and established artists. We are committed to the underground, the underdog, the experimental and the emergent; to curatorial proposals, workshops and skill-sharing; and to group exhibitions, collaborations and artist talks. We seek to make our exhibition space viable to artists outside of Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, in order to exhibit work from across Canada and share it with our communities, thereby deepening both our critical and inspirational engagement with the arts. The collective programs bi-annually and supports an accessible application process, please see our submission FAQ sheet and guidelines to learn what we are looking for in a proposal package. “Internal Mapping, drawing” is a  guided drawing journey exploring
 techniques, sensations of mark making, and inner landscaping.

“Internal Mapping, drawing” is a 60-minute guided drawing journey exploring
 different techniques, the sensations of mark making, and the idea of inner 
landscaping. The session will include a Q&A with the artist. This free 
workshop is part of the exhibit “ON WALKING, ROCKS” at the Fifty Fifty Arts 
Collective, running August 6th, 2021 to August 31st 2021.- Sylvie Ringer and Jenni Schine are a collective of two artists (visual and
sound) who create works drawing on connections between place, memory,
information and social relations. Both share a practice of closely observing
and listening to their immediate surroundings, which then find expressions in
Jenni’s sound compositions and Sylvie’s works on paper and immersive
installations.
ON GROWING, ROCKS explores concepts of epigenetics and fertility, the
information stored in the layers of our bodies and subconscious. The artists
reflect on their personal experiences of single motherhood and assistive
reproductive technology (ART) by using landscape as a metaphor and sound
compositions through field recordings. It references the idea that mountains
and rocks are holders of information: their layers contain memories of
climate conditions thousands of years old as well as our remains, history, and
current relationships with our environment. Similarly, the human body can be
seen as a vessel containing experiences from ancestors of years back.
During Covid-19, Sylvie and Jenni’s inspiration has been drawn from within,
seeking landscape in dreams and memories as shapes, sounds, and stories.

a year of digging, collecting, sorting and life changing decisions.
