The Blackfoot Confederacy Initiative (BFCI) is a community-led project rooted in reconciliation and cultural revitalization. The project creates space for Blackfoot community members to share stories of Mohkinsstsis and help guide future public art.

This initiative is important because it centers Blackfoot voices in public storytelling and builds relationships between Blackfoot Nations and the Calgary community.

How can people participate?

If you are a member of the Blackfoot community, we encourage you to attend in-person info sessions, fill out a survey on the website or contact project leads directly. Your voice will help inspire Blackfoot artists to create art that reflects Blackfoot stories of Mohkinsstsis.

What makes this public art?

Accepted Answer

The resulting artwork(s) will be publicly accessible and deeply rooted in Blackfoot cultural expression, history and knowledge. Public art exists in common space, is available to all and is free to access. It makes our city vibrant, generates conversation, creates points of interest and connection.
