Through an engaging panel discussion, Muslim and other religious scholars will explore key aspects of the Islamic faith and the importance of promoting religious tolerance in today’s diverse society.Hear directly from African-descent Muslim women as they share their lived experiences navigating faith, identity, school, work, and community life in Saskatchewan.What to Expect:<ul><li>New knowledge about the Islamic Faith - Religion and Culture, Facts, Myths and Misconceptions</li><li>Increased strategies to promote religious tolerance in our communities, the work of multi-faith councils</li><li>Increased understanding of the impact of multiple forms of discrimination (race, gender and religion)against women</li></ul>

Dr. Brenda AndersonWe’re honoured to welcome Dr. Brenda Anderson, Associate Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies &amp; Religious Studies at Luther College, University of Regina, as a guest speaker at our Exploring Islam workshop.Dr. Anderson brings years of research and community engagement focused on women, religion, and social justice. She will be leading the discussion on “The Intersectionality of Women and Religion”, exploring how faith, gender, and identity shape the experiences of women within the Muslim context.Her insights invite us to reflect, connect, and build deeper understanding across communities. Fatuma Ali KhalifWe’re delighted to welcome Fatuma, a community advocate and coordinator, as a guest speaker at our Exploring Islam workshop.Fatuma will share her lived experiences as a Black Muslim woman, offering an authentic and heartfelt perspective on faith, identity, and belonging.Her session will shed light on what inclusion and respect for faith look like in real-world settings, inspiring us to create workplaces and communities where everyone can belong.Her voice reminds us that understanding Islam begins with listening to real stories that connect us all. Alaa BouzertitAlaa Bouzertit is a recent graduate of the University of Saskatchewan College of Law, where she graduated with distinction. She served as Managing Editor of the Saskatchewan Law Review and as a teaching assistant for the Indigenous Kwayeskastasowin course.Alaa also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Regina, graduating with great distinction. She has professional experience at Service Canada and as an Islamic instructor at Regina Huda School. At the Exploring Islam workshop, Alaa will share insights on the tenets of Islam and engage with participants through a Q&amp;A session. Meet Our Facilitator – Pastor Russell Mitchell-Walker Pastor Russell is a Diaconal Minister with the United Church of Canada, serving at Eastside United Church in Regina. With close to 40 years of ministry experience, he’s passionate about social justice, inclusion, and building welcoming spaces where people of all backgrounds and identities can belong.We’re excited to have him facilitate our Exploring Islam workshop, guiding meaningful conversations on faith, diversity, and understanding.
