New Guidelines for Social Workers: Medical Assistance in Dying

NSCSW members are invited to learn about new provincial guidelines for MAiD.

<p>This past year, new changes to the laws surrounding medical assistance in dying (MAiD) were passed; these changes will affect social workers practicing in Nova Scotia. Members of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers are invited to join either or both sessions of this special two-part webinar series, presented by members of the NSCSW Professional Standards Committee MAiD Work Group.</p><p>To sign up for these sessions, attendees will need to provide their NSCSW member number. To participate online, they will also need access to a computer or mobile device that can use <a href="https://zoom.us/test" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom</a>, and a reliable internet connection</p><h2>Session 1: Friday, October 29</h2><h3>Introduction to changes in the law and how it affects social workers in Nova Scotia </h3><p>An overview of the newly drafted guidelines, along with an overview about the NSH MAID Access and Resources Team.</p><p><strong>Speakers:</strong> Haley McIntosh, RSW and Cheryl Tschupruk, RSW</p><h2>Session 2: Friday, November 5</h2><h3>Practical and ethical implications for social workers in Nova Scotia</h3><p>This second session will count toward one credit hour for members’ regulatory requirement for professional development in social work ethics.</p><p><strong>Speakers:</strong> Dominic Boyd, RSW and Linden Hardie, RSW</p><h2>Session 3: Wednesday, November 17</h2><h3>Legal, ethical and social justice implications for social workers in Nova Scotia </h3><p>This special third session will present a deeper analysis of the legal, ethical and social justice implications for social workers in Nova Scotia. </p><p>This session will count toward one credit hour for members’ ethics requirement.</p><p><strong>Speakers:  </strong>Professor H. Archibald Kaiser, JD, cross-appointed to the faculty of Law and Medicine at Dalhousie University, and Dominic Boyd, RSW</p><p></p>
