Canadian Mental Health Association, Newfoundland and Labrador Division (CMHA-NL) is the provincial division of the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health. CMHA-NL offers workplace mental health training, certification sessions for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and  more. We also provide information and education sessions for youths and seniors; please contact us to learn more.

Community Lifelines & Resilience Project

Join CMHA-NL’s Resilience Project to build mental health resilience after the 2025 wildfires. Free education and training sessions are available for those impacted including community members, first responders, and others seeking support.

<h2>Community Lifelines: Mental Health Education</h2>CMHA-NL, in collaboration with Lifewise and Richard’s Legacy, proudly presents the Community Lifelines Project. This initiative offers comprehensive training at no cost, thanks to generous funding from the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Government’s Department of Health and Community Services. Our aim is to empower community members, first responders, children and youth, sports groups &amp; clubs, schools &amp; teachers, community centers, non-profits, and others with the skills and knowledge necessary to enhance their services and support their communities effectively.Date: March 26 &amp; 27, 2026Time: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM (each day) with 1-hour for lunch, as well as morning and afternoon breaks. Meals are not provided.Cost: No charge. This course is provided through The Community Lifelines Program. Registrants must be 16+.Location: Mount Peyton Resort &amp; Conference Centre, 214 Lincoln Rd, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL A2A 1P8*Participants must be present for all topics in order to receive a course certificatePlease be advised that information covered in these training courses relates to the topic of mental health and suicide and maybe sensitive for some participants. If you have been recently bereaved by suicide or feel that now is not the right time for you to participate in this training, please consider your well-being before registering for or attending a session._____________________________________________________________ABOUT THIS COURSEApplied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day, in-person workshop featuring powerful audiovisuals, discussions, and simulations. You’ll learn how to recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide, and how to provide a skilled intervention and develop a safety plan with the person to connect them to further support. You will also consider how personal and community attitudes about suicide affect someone’s openness to seek help and your ability to provide it. This workshop will increase your willingness, confidence, and capacity to provide suicide first aid._____________________________________________________________PLEASE NOTE:• Seats will not be reserved without completed registration.• Certificates will only be issued to participants who complete all course hours and required work.• The facilitator reserves the right to remove any participant from the training session or to terminate the session entirely if any individual(s) engages in inappropriate, disruptive, or harmful behavior that creates an unsafe learning space. Inappropriate behavior includes but is not limited to harassment, discrimination, disruptive actions, or failure to adhere to the session’s safe space guidelines. The facilitator’s decision to remove a participant or end the session is final, and no refunds or compensation will be provided in such cases.• CMHA-NL reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course.
