Is this workshop a substitute for an ASL Interpreter?

Accepted Answer

No. This training is not intended to replace a qualified ASL interpreter. It focuses on interim communication strategies to support patient safety and consent while and interpreter is en route.

Do I need prior ASL experience?

Accepted Answer

No. Prior ASL or Sign language experience is not required. This training does not aim for fluency. It focuses on practical, emergency-relevant strategies that can be used immediately.

Question 3

What will I learn?

Accepted Answer

You will learn how to communicate effectively using clear writing, appropriate gestures, and basic ASL strategies; how to ask essential questions and for consent, and how to assess a patient without relying on lip-reading, shouting, or family members, and learn core ethical and legal principles.

Is this workshop recorded?

Yes. A recording will be made available only to participants who attend the live session. The recording is for personal review and may not be shared, redistributed, or viewed by anyone who did not attend the live workshop.

How many participants are allowed?

Accepted Answer

Seating is limited to ensure interaction and accessibility. Registration will close once capacity is reached.

Question 6

Can this training be delivered internally to a department?

Accepted Answer

Yes. This workshop is also available as a private internal training for hospitals, EMS, fire services, or clinical teams. Departmental delivery, scheduling and price are available upon request.

Question 7

Do I have to be a medical professional, doctor, nurse, EMT or firefighter to attend this training?

Accepted Answer

No. While this training is designed for medical professionals and first responders, anyone who may encounter a Deaf person during a medical emergency, witness an emergency situation, or work with Deaf or HOH individuals is welcome to attend.
