NSCSW Connections: National Social Work Month 2026

NSCSW Connections: National Social Work Month 2026

Online event
Monday, Mar 2 from 12 pm to 1 pm AST
Overview

Reflecting on our past, reimagining our future: an opportunity to celebrate National Social Work Month with other NS social workers.

Join staff and council members of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) for the kick-off of National Social Work Month (NSWM) 2026. This year, we are reflecting on the history and future of social work in Nova Scotia. It has been 10 years since NSCSW has been a regulatory college and as we consider our impact on public safety in social work practice, we look forward to many more years of Safe(R) Social Work Practice.

This virtual event will be an opportunity to hear from NSCSW leadership, learn more about CASW activities and initiatives for NSWM, and connect with other social workers in Nova Scotia.

Objectives

  • Knowledge: Understand and recognize the value and impact of social work across sectors.
  • Skill: Connect with other social workers in the province and better analyze and differentiate the ways social work impacts the social, political, and cultural landscapes in Nova Scotia.
  • Values: Share in the collective building of social work professional identity with other social workers in Nova Scotia.

Speakers

  • Robert Wright, Council President, NSCSW
  • Alec Stratford, Executive Director/Registrar, NSCSW
  • Tyler Colbourne, Professional Development Consultant, NSCSW

Foundations

Several sections of the NSCSW Code of Ethics & Standards of Practice are relevant to this session:

Value 7: Providing Culturally Responsive Competent Professional Services

  • Guiding Principle: 7.3: Social workers contribute to the ongoing development of the social work profession and current and future social workers.
  • Guiding Principle 7.4: Social workers contribute to the knowledge base and advancement of knowledge in the social work profession.

Eligibility

This event is only for members of the NSCSW. All active, associate, retired associate, and student members are welcome to attend; our professional development programming is part of our member services funded by annual registration fees. There are no other prerequisites for this session.
