We host several events for our students, personal development opportunities for staff and faculty, and more!The Algonquin College Speaker Series Series at the Pembroke Waterfront Campus has been attracting some of Canada’s most interesting speakers for more than 25 years. This series is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s new Horizons for Seniors program.

Raising Resilient Children in Today’s World Session Description: In this session, we will explore essential aspects of parenting and caregiving in the modern world, including:~ how to nurture a Secure Attachment with your child ~ effective strategies to support your child (and yourself!) through BIG Emotions ~ straight-forward ways to establish Healthy Boundaries with your child ~ understanding the ways Technology impacts your child’s Mental Health and how to make a Family Tech Plan that works for everyone ~ how to release the societal pressures placed on you and your child, to focus on Well-Being instead of “Being Good”, and ~ ways to really see your child’s competencies and ensure they Keep their Spark! *As an added bonus, this session is also accompanied by a takeaway Parenting E-Toolkit, which includes key learnings from the session AND important family reflection questions to help you continue your intentional parenting journey!*~~~ Speaker Bio: Mary Hewitt, founder of Unlocking Childhood, is an experienced public speaker, writer, and consultant specializing in the well-being of children, parents, educators, and child-centered professionals. With 15 years in the Early Learning field as a classroom educator, early childhood education professor, and early years system leader—she leverages her expertise to develop engaging and meaningful learning experiences for her audiences. Mary holds a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor of Education degree, a diploma in Early Childhood Education, and a Psychology degree. Mary has captivated audiences throughout North America and has delivered her work in a variety of contexts from large-scale arenas to individual classrooms. Mary offers keynotes, workshops, conferences, virtual sessions, and even one-on-one coaching and consultations. She has appeared as a guest on several podcasts and as a writer for various publications. Mary credits her eclectic experiences, extensive education, and neurodivergent mind for her dynamic approach—and is passionate about sharing it with the world!
