Is the art classroom accessible?

Accepted Answer

The entire building and studio/classroom is accessible to wheelchairs. The classroom has an accessible washroom, and there are more within the building.

Question 2

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Accepted Answer

No! We have a seemingly endless supply of unique collage materials, and most tools/equipment you will need. However, if you have a very 'special' collage piece, incomplete artwork, or tools you prefer to use or finish...feel free to bring it along. Note - no toxic materials allowed.

Question 3

Do I need to be an artist or know how to collage?

Accepted Answer

No! All skill levels are welcome, from the absolute beginner to established artist. We will focus on PLAY and EXPERIMENTATION as opposed to finished products.  Collage culture is all about re-using, re-imagining, and trying out new things no matter what materials we are using.

Question 4

Will you be teaching us how to collage?

Accepted Answer

Kind of. This is an open studio for adults rather than a structured class. We will demonstrate some basic techniques via slideshow or hands on demo, but will leave the learning up to you. We will have lots of examples for you to look at, and will assist you with any questions you have.

Question 5

Can I keep what I make?

Accepted Answer

Yes!  Please take your artworks home with you, as we have very limited storage space.  Or re-use your work for at the next Collage Club, as 2 hours is usually not enough time to fully complete an artwork.

Question 6

Do I have to follow the monthly theme or prompt?

Accepted Answer

No!  Think of our monthly theme as a prompt to get ideas started, to bring out selective materials to use (did we mention our endless collage supply?), and to have a theme for our music  playlist. We are keeping prompts quite open, so that you can play with it rather than force it.

Question 7

Can I bring my child/grandchild to join in?

Accepted Answer

Ideally, this is a space for adults so that we can focus on socializing and art-making vs childcare. Also, some of the images we use and songs we play may not be appropriate for children.  This is not a structured class, so more suited to adult attention spans.

Question 8

Can I eat in the classroom space?

Accepted Answer

No. We will have some herbal teas available, and you are welcome to bring your own water, coffee, or other drink. However, eating in the classroom is not healthy when using art materials, and food is not allowed in the Art Gallery spaces. Please have your snacks in the Cultural Centre Rotunda.

Why is this only $5.00?

Accepted Answer

We want to encourage as many people as possible to join us, so are keeping the price low. All registration fees for this program go directly back into the supplies for this program (mostly glue & paper). Charging a fee also helps ensure people who register will show up, as we have limited seats.
