CMHA-NL offers workplace mental health training, certification sessions for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and  more. Community Lifelines & Resilience Project

Join CMHA-NL’s Resilience Project to build mental health resilience after the 2025 wildfires. Free education and training sessions are available for those impacted including community members, first responders, and others seeking support.

Resilience Project: Mental Health Education for Wildfire Impacted CommunitiesThis fall as part of The Community Lifelines program, CMHA-NL launched the Resilience Project to support members of our communities impacted by wildfires. Education and training to support mental health resilience and suicide prevention will be offered with no charge to community members, first responders, children and youth, sports groups &amp; clubs, schools &amp; teachers, community centers, and anyone else needing support in these geographic areas.Date: March 4 &amp; 5, 2026Time: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM (each day) with 1-hour for lunch, as well as morning and afternoon breaks. Meals are not provided.Cost: No charge. This course is provided through The Resilience Project as part of The Community Lifelines Program. Registrants must be 18+.Location: College of the North Atlantic Seal Cove Campus,1670 Conception Bay Hwy, Conception Bay South, NL A1X 5C7*Certificates provided by MHFA Canada and will be sent to participants at a later date. If you have been recently bereaved by suicide or feel that now is not the right time for you to participate in this training, please consider your well-being before registering for or attending a session.__________________________________________________________ABOUT THIS COURSEMental Health First Aid (MHFA)-Standard Course OverviewOne person in five will experience a mental health problem this year. It is often reported that the most challenging part of intervening is knowing what to say. MHFA Basic is an interactive and content-rich course designed to increase participant knowledge of mental health and how to support other adults (18 years and older) who may be experiencing mental ill health. Participants having taken MHFA training report that they are able to interact confidently about mental health with their family, friends, workplaces and other communities.Training will include the four most common mental health disorders: substance-related, mood-related, anxiety/trauma-related, and psychotic disorders, while also dispelling myths, misinformation, and stigma associated with mental health problems.Evidence gathered by the Mental Health Commission of Canada shows that taking a MHFA course increases the confidence participants have in engaging someone experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. Course Objectives•Increased awareness of signs and symptoms of the most common mental health problems• Decreased stigma related to mental health• Increased confidence interacting with individuals experiencing a mental health problem or crisis•Increased help actually provided to individuals in crisis or experiencing a mental health problem Crisis First Aid Skills Learned•Substance overdose•Suicidal behaviour•Panic attack• Acute stress reaction•Psychotic episodes_____________________________________________________________PLEASE NOTE:• Seats will not be reserved without completed registration.• The facilitator reserves the right to remove any participant from the training session or to terminate the session entirely if any individual(s) engages in inappropriate, disruptive, or harmful behavior that creates an unsafe learning space. Inappropriate behavior includes but is not limited to harassment, discrimination, disruptive actions, or failure to adhere to the session’s safe space guidelines. The facilitator’s decision to remove a participant or end the session is final, and no refunds or compensation will be provided in such cases.• Certificates will only be issued to participants who complete all course hours and required work.• CMHA-NL reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course.
