Calling all animal detectives and future animal protectors!

CHS Summer Camp

Calgary Humane Society Summer Camp is a place where kids build meaningful connections with animals. Our goal is to create opportunities for children to interact with, learn about, and develop empathy for the animals that share our world.

Led by enthusiastic instructors, dedicated volunteers, and supported by our friendly animal ambassadors, each camp week offers an enriching experience filled with fun activities, creative crafts, and hands‑on learning. As campers explore and play, they also learn about respect, compassion, and the lifelong responsibility of caring for animals.

All activities are designed to be age‑appropriate and developmentally suitable. For campers who wish to attend multiple weeks, each week features a unique theme to ensure fresh and diverse experiences.

Throughout their time with us, campers will discover animal characteristics and behavior, learn proper pet care, and meet a variety of species, including bunnies, cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, and more!

Theme Description: Animal Investigations (Grade 4-6)

Ever wonder what laws protect pets—and all the other animals we share our world with? Curious how those laws are enforced or what happens when someone breaks them? In this special camp, you’ll team up with other campers to explore the world of animal protection and enforcement!

Campers will try their hand at solving practice cases, learn the basics of animal forensics, and discover the types of information real investigators use to crack a case. You’ll also meet the enforcers of the Animal Protection Act—our very own CHS Peace Officers!

This camp offers an introduction to how our judicial system works, a behind‑the‑scenes look at what animal investigators do, and most importantly, the knowledge and confidence to become an ally in the effort to protect animals everywhere.

Please be aware that Animal Investigations Camp can include heavier subject matter related to animal protection, law enforcement, and real‑world cases. Some discussions may involve sensitive or emotionally difficult concepts surrounding animal welfare.

Because of this, the camp may not be suitable for all children.

We kindly ask that parents ensure their camper is emotionally ready and prepared for this type of content before attending. If you’re unsure whether this camp is the right fit for your child, we’re happy to answer any questions and help you decide.

Our goal is to provide a meaningful, educational, and supportive experience for all campers.
