Learning With Mi'kma'ki (NSCC-Kingstec/In-Person)
Learn to see the land and the natural environment through the Mi'kmaw lens and discover how to apply Two-Eyed Seeing to your ECE practice.

This is an in person session with travel between two locations in the town of Kentville, NS.
ExploreMi’kmaw perspectives on land and nature and apply Two-Eyed Seeing in earlylearning and child care programs
Learning With Mi'kma'ki: This 6-hour professional learningexperience invites early childhood educators to deepen their relationship withplace through Mi’kmaw-first voice teachings.
Grounded in the principle of Etuaptmumk(Two-Eyed Seeing), participants will explore how Indigenous and Westernknowledge systems can work together to support early learning and child care.
Through storytelling, reflection, andhands-on activities, educators will explore Mi’kmaw ways of knowing and being,including Netukulimk, land-based learning, and the interconnectedness ofall living things. The session includes both indoor and outdoor components,encouraging participants to observe, memorize, and compare their surroundingsas part of a traditional Mi’kmaw methodology.
Participants will:
● ExploreMi’kma’ki, its districts, and the significance of Land Acknowledgments.
● Learn aboutMi’kmaw identity, community, and the principle of Netukulimk.
● Reflect onthe autonomy of self and child, and how this informs early learning.
● Examine thedifferences between outdoor education, outdoor learning, and land-basedlearning.
● Engage inoutdoor activities that foster connection to land, water, animals, and plants.
● ApplyTwo-Eyed Seeing to their practice, integrating Indigenous and Westernperspectives.
Note: Please come prepared to spend at least 3 hours outdoors. Dress forthe weather and wear appropriate footwear. Bring a water bottle, writingmaterials, and a spirit of curiosity.

Saturday, April 25th: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Location:
The first 3 hours of the session will be held in the classroom at NSCC (236 Belcher St, Kentville, NS B4N 0A6) and the final 3 hours will possibly be held at The Gorge, Kentville (This location may change subject to other town events). There will be a 1 hour break for lunch/travel to outdoor location.
Please ensure you have made travel arrangements prior to the event date (vehicle, cycle, carpool, transit, etc).
