From Fleece to Felted Soap: A Regenerative Fibre Workshop

In addition to the fresh, baked, preserved and crafted goods we sell at local farmers markets, each year from spring to late fall we offer a variety of special events and gatherings that invite visitors to savour the peace of this place, meet the animals, and learn about some aspect of our regenerative practices. Come and rediscover the simply joy of connection and community.NOTE: we make every effort to offer inclusive pricing by providing donation or pay-what-you-can (PWYC) options. Tending to a farm and a herd of horses is a costly venture. By paying more if you are able to, you are supporting the herd and others with less financial means ensuring more diverse and inclusive gatherings.

Joy-filled farm workshop: meet our sheep, explore wool from fleece to felt, and craft a cozy felted soap in a regenerative farm setting.

Spend a joy-filled afternoon at Flying Moon Farm in the Ottawa Valley, where sheep, soil, and seriously good fibre come together.In this 2.5-hour hands-on workshop, you’ll meet our small flock and learn how sheep contribute to regenerative farming — building soil health, cycling nutrients, and strengthening the ecosystem of our forest farm.Then we’ll move through the full journey of fibre.You’ll experience each stage of working with wool: from raw fleece, to cleaned fibre, to hand-carded roving ready to felt. You’ll feel the texture change in your hands as wool transforms — becoming aligned, softened, and ready for craft.Finally, you’ll learn wet felting techniques to wrap beautifully carded wool around a handcrafted bar of soap (sourced from a local maker). The result is a wool-wrapped soap that gently exfoliates, lasts longer, and is fully biodegradable.This isn’t just a felting workshop. It’s an immersive fibre experience — creating with wool while the sheep graze nearby, grounding the craft in the living system it comes from.As we work, we’ll weave in conversations about ethical fibre, regenerative local food systems, and craft as care. Sheep as teachers. Wool as soft rebellion.
