Opening: The fortune of the city is that it has never been perfect

Rejoignez-nous le jeudi 21 mai pour le vernissage de L’atout de la ville c’est qu’elle n’a jamais été parfaite. L’exposition interroge les enjeux de la construction urbaine à travers l’approche expérientielle d’Álvaro Siza à la ville, marquée par le respect et la compréhension du lieu, de sa forme, de son histoire et de son existence. Juxtaposant du matériel issu des archives de Siza, données au CCA et de la documentation en provenance de photographes, d’architectes et d’historiens gravitant autour de l’architecte et de ses projets urbains, l’exposition révèle les différentes échelles de la ville, ses textures, ses visages et sa complexité.

L’exposition sera accessible à partir de 17h. À 18h, dans le Théâtre Paul-Desmarais, Giovanna Borasi, commissaire de l’exposition, introduira le projet ainsi que sa démarche curatoriale. La soirée se conclura par une célébration dans la Maison Shaughnessy, de 19h à 21h.

Cet événement se déroulera en anglais et sera gratuit. Aucune inscription n’est requise pour accéder à l’exposition ou la célébration dans la maison Shaughnessy. Toutefois, le nombre de places étant limité dans le théâtre, il est recommandé de s'inscrire à la conférence.

Join us on Thursday 21 May for the opening of The fortune of the city is that it has never been perfect. The exhibition explores the challenges of urban development through Álvaro Siza’s experiential approach to the city, characterized by respect for and an understanding of a place, its shape, its embodied history, and its life. By juxtaposing material from Siza’s archives, donated to the CCA with documentation from photographers, architects, and historians associated with the architect and his urban projects, the exhibition reveals the city’s various scales, textures, faces, and complexity.

The exhibition opens at 5pm. At 6pm in the Paul-Desmarais Theatre, Giovanna Borasi, curator of the exhibition, will present the project and her curatorial approach. The evening concludes with a celebration in the Shaughnessy House from 7pm to 9pm.

This even will be held in English and is free of charge. Registration to access the exhibition and celebration in the Shaughnessy House is not required. However, as space is limited in the theatre, registration is recommended for the lecture.
