Night School hosts live lectures in bars.Each event features a 45 minute talk from a professor or cultural expert, followed by open audience Q&A and a social atmosphere before and after.No classrooms. No exams. <h3>Night School Lecture + Social: Where Scholarship Meets Cultural Life</h3> You’ve been using language your entire life, but you’ve probably never really thought about how it’s shaping you.For this Night School, we explore something so familiar it’s almost invisible: the words we use, the ones we avoid, and the ones that define us.Because every word is a choice. And those choices add up. We’ll start with a simple question:If you could go back and choose a different name for yourself, would you? What would it be? What you’ll experience:Part lecture, part reflection.This talk introduces a framework for understanding how language operates in everyday life—how it influences identity, relationships, and the way we interpret the world.You’ll leave noticing things you’ve never noticed before. What we’ll get into:• Why being fluent in language doesn’t mean we understand it • How names, labels, and word choices shape identity • The hidden structure behind everyday conversations • What we reveal by what we say—and what we don’t • How small shifts in language can change how we’re understood The core idea:Magic words?All words are magic. <h3>The Experience</h3>6:45 PM — Arrival<ul><li>Grab a beverage, meet your classmates, and ease into the room.</li></ul> 7:30–8:30 PM — Class Is in Session<ul><li>A research-driven lecture led by Night School Faculty. Clear, engaging, and grounded in real insight, followed by open conversation with the room.</li></ul> 8:30 PM onward — After Class Hangout Sesh<ul><li>No rush out. This is where conversations unfold, connections form, and ideas carry into the night.</li></ul>
