Who and what is the BC Biodiversity Network (BCBN)?
Today, we are a newly formed small collective of scientists, practitioners, and organizations dedicated to strengthening biodiversity stewardship in British Columbia. However, we ultimately hope to be a broad and diverse network that connects people and organizations working on biodiversity in BC.
While BC holds the highest levels of biodiversity in Canada, our monitoring efforts are currently fragmented across academic, government, and community sectors. In addition, monitoring and sampling efforts are generally concentrated in a few important, but comparatively small regions, meaning that we don’t understand the full biodiversity picture across all of BC. The BCBN will serve as a knowledge-sharing hub designed to bridge these gaps by coordinating efforts and harmonizing data from diverse sources like camera traps, autonomous recording units, iNaturalist observations, remote sensing, eDNA etc. and supporting analyses and syntheses to provide stronger province-wide insights.
