Cette conférence de Carol F. Lee retracera les histoires étroitement liées des entreprises Wings et de la famille Lee à Montréal, du tournant du 20ᵉ siècle jusqu’en 1964. Installé au cœur du Quartier chinois, Wings s’est d’abord développé comme un commerce d’importation, d’alimentation et de médecine traditionnelle, avant de se réorienter, après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, vers la production de nouilles, de biscuits chinois et de sauces.

À travers ce parcours entrepreneurial et familial, c’est aussi une page importante de l’histoire de l’immigration chinoise à Montréal qui se dévoile. Leur travail acharné, leur résilience face aux obstacles, leur solidarité familiale et leur engagement envers la communauté ont façonné non seulement l’évolution de Wings, mais aussi une partie du tissu social et culturel du Quartier chinois. Cette présentation met en lumière ces contributions essentielles à la mémoire montréalaise.

Discover the intertwined history of Wings and the Lee family, whose resilience and community commitment helped shape Montreal’s historic Chinatown.

Presented by the JIA Foundation, in partnership with the MEM—Centre des mémoires montréalaises

This lecture by Carol F. Lee will tell the closely intertwined stories of the Wing’s businesses and the Lee family in Montreal, from the turn of the 20th century to 1964. Wing's began as an importer, grocery, and herbal medicine store and pivoted after World War II to manufacturing noodles, fortune cookies, and sauces.

Through this entrepreneurial and family journey, an important chapter in the history of Chinese immigration to Montreal also comes into view. Hard work, resilience, family solidarity, and a strong commitment to the community shaped not only the evolution of Wing’s, but also part of the social and cultural fabric of Chinatown. This presentation will highlight these essential contributions to Montreal’s collective memory.
