Talk Title

Connecting Care, Changing Lives: A National Network for Youth with Severe Brain Injury and Complex Care Needs—Lessons from the Netherlands

Talk Summary

Children and youth with severe acquired brain injury (ABI) often encounter fragmented care across healthcare, education, and community services, leading to delays, inequities, and suboptimal outcomes. In the Netherlands, these challenges have underscored the need for a coordinated national approach. This presentation outlines the development of the KIND & NAH network, a collaborative initiative designed to connect expertise, align care pathways, and improve life‑course outcomes for children and families. Central to the network is a shared vision emphasizing long‑term participation and continuity across settings. Key elements include a tiered care approach with expertise close to home, cross‑sector collaboration, and a Knowledge Center supporting practice, research, and implementation. Early lessons highlight the importance of strong family partnerships, shared frameworks, and sustainable governance.
